When I called to make an appointment with a therapist, they asked me a bunch of questions first on the phone. One of the things they asked was if I ever thought about hurting anyone else. I answered no. I don't think about it when I'm awake, but when I'm sleeping it's another story. I had one of my dark, violent dreams again last night.

This one wasn't about people, but rather animals. It doesn't make sense because I have animals and pets of my own. Anyways, I was outside doing yardwork. My neighboor's dog was barking at me. I'm kind of afraid of dogs because one ran me down and tackled me when I was younger. I then took the shovel and beat it to death. Then the cat must have picked up on the vibe that I was hurting his friend. I grabbed it by the throat and strangled it. I then dragged them up into the woods behind my house and buried them. It's strange because this neighboor and pets actually don't exist.

Fortunately, I can't remember most of my dreams once I wake up. I usually can remember there was a violent aspect of them, but not what they were actually about. I don't get them often, maybe every month and not always to the extent of killing things. In my dreams I've gotten into fights before, another bad one was when I actually rammed someone with my car. It's strange because I'm a calm, friendly person, and have never gotten into a fight and hit someone before.

Do you think I should tell the therapist? These are more subconcious thoughts, I'm not doing this while I'm awake. I don't want to end up getting sent to an institute for them because they think I'm potentially dangerous. Thanks.

Yes.
You should
This may sound a little out there for most people, but it could be events from the past, that have been blanked out.

You most likely have suppressed anger. Do you wake up with crescent moons in your palms from clenching your fists, or do you clench your jaw? The dreams alone are a sign.

If you want you can talk to one and they can help you get over the anger. The anger can eventually start boiling over and you will start getting very angry over small things and eventually snap. (I've been there)

I haven't specifically noticed my fists or jaw clenched. I wake up though sometime and my upper body is tight like I'm ready to throw a punch or react to something. I've done Tae Kwon Do for 10 years. Not necessarly a good thing if I have these violents thoughts and am actually trained in fighting....

I haven't actually snapped at anyone, but I thought I was going to the other day. I was in a study hall where you're actually suppose to be working. I was trying to concentrate and someone was behind me clicking away obnoxiously on their computer and laughing occasionally; obviously surfing the web and nothing school related. I had to leave the room because I felt like I was about to turn around and deck her. That was a bit irrational on my part.

Yes. Believe me, they won't do anything bad to you. Trust me from experience if you know what I mean.
