I have been looking for a college lately because I will be graduating from high school in 2012, in almost 3 years. My parents deal is, that if I go to my local community college for 2 years, I can go to wherever I like, if I get accepted. So I have been searching for colleges all day and I found one that I absolutely love, Biola University. I checked out the dorms on virtual tour and they looked very nice. Problem is: I live in Virginia and since plane tickets are really expensive, how am I to go across the United States for holidays? (Biola University is in California) Maybe I could just cut going home for holidays. What do you think?

You can always just try saving money in advance? Try getting a little part-time job, or do little odd jobs like babysitting or something.

community college? My parents would disown me...University, or I'm not going to become anything in life. If you can afford it then go for it. Can you afford to eat, sleep, live and learn there? Have you calculated the cost of the dorm, the meal plan, and your books? Not to mention transportation, tuition and recreation.

I'd find it really weird not being able to go home for the holidays, especially if everyone else does. Though if you can afford going to a private university, a plane ticket once a semester shouldn't be that expensive, would it? What about a bus trip? It'd be long, but if you're that set on the university could you manage it?

First of all, props on preparing so early for college. Secondly, I live in Virginia and was looking at some colleges out in California too. It is pretty expensive to get out there, but if you treat it like a vacation, it's most definitely worth it. If you're looking at Christian schools (which I'm assuming you are if you're looking at Biola), I would suggest checking out Vanguard University, Azusa Pacific, and Pepperdine while you're out there. They're all fairly close to each other, and hey, you wanna make your trip worthwhile. Some other good schools to look at out there are Occidental College, and some of the bigger schools like USC and UCLA.

I have a friend who goes to Biola, and she LOVES it! We're in NY, so I know what you mean about being really far away, but she was able to come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so not too bad.
