Pretty self-explanatory. I'm just wondering where the interweb's resident intellects (apparently) don't get enough mental stimulation. Me? I applied ED to Haverford College. I should hear this Monday.

Really? I'm applying for Swinbourne, Melbourne, and Deakin U here. Also applying for MIT in America, and maybe also for Harvard and Dartmouth if I get a really good SAT next year.

MIT isn't all that great of an undergraduate school. Yea, it is the leading tech school for graduates --and they do like to accept alum. for graduate school-- but the UG program isn't as awesome as you might think. I applied, but never did any of the application process --interview, etc. Wound up going to Rensselaer Polytechnic. Though, mostly because MIT's Astronautical Engineering dept. isn't a very large program. Probably wouldn't have gotten in anyway. You need to have done a TON of extra-curricular work in the field of science or engineering. edit: Just to clarify, I am not claiming that MIT's undergrad program is easy or easy to get into, and especially not that it doesn't put out good engineers. Just that it isn't the mecca of engineering as most people view it as.

Just to clarify, by "college" I mean university-level schools. I know that in some parts of Europe (at least) "college" is highschool. Such is the case in France, I think.

I go to University of Chicago. We have a bunch of fun mottos to dissuade people from coming and proclaim our status as brilliant. University of Chicago: Where Hell Freezes Over University of Chicago: Where the Only Thing that Goes Down On You is Your GPA University of Chicago: If I wanted an 'A', I would have gone to Harvard. I find out MIT early action tomorrow at 6PM -_- I got into SFSU, and I applied to UC's Berkeley and Santa Cruz. Also, depending on MIT results, any combination of some of these: Cornell, Caltech, RPI, CMU, and Stanford. I won't be disappointed if I don't get into MIT. No lie, though: it looks like a really fun place to learn. College is college, though, when everything is boiled down.

I'm doing Software Engineering at University of Waterloo, Waterloo, On. It's probably one of the best schools if not the best in Canada for Engineering + Computer Science, But I don't know how much those outside of good ol' Canada have heard about it.

I go to Hampshire College in MA. As far as experimental education goes, it's one of the best schools around. I only applied to 5 schools- Hampshire, Reed, Knox, Earlham, and Beloit. I really didn't go for a school with a huge reputation, but a lot of that had to do with the application process. To be honest, I probably could have gotten into my choice of schools, but it had more to do with my uniqueness as a candidate than fantastic grades or test scores (I had a 2.8 GPA with a full IB diploma and a 2120 on the SAT).

I was supposed to go to Stanford, but I decided that I wanted to go to Berkeley instead, and now this isn't gonna work out some I'm going to U London probably. I missed first semester because of family drama but I'm already at almost 3rd year status at most American Universities. I dunno about U London, I'll just have to make up a lot of work I guess. What else is new.

You do realize your opinion holds absolutely no weight in your deciding who is applicable or not in being selected to Universities? I forget.. have you actually graduated high school yet, or are you already assuming you're God's gift to academia without having fully cut your teeth in it already?

Oh, so, second/third-hand knowledge is now permissible whenever trying to better one another over the forum? I'll play the elitist card with you and say, "If only you were already IN college, then you could make a better argument over the selectivity of most prestigious universities." On a minor note, I've known more than my fair share of IB students from high school who dropped college altogether or flunked out due to too much drinking, but does that make me an expert over who'll graduate? Certainly not.

Still doesn't mean you have any kind of authority to decide who will get in where.
