Either a 1992 Ford Tempo GLS or a 1992 Mercury Topaz XR5 or LTS.
Don't knock it for its age. Its faster in acceleration then the majority of sub-$20,000 sedans on the market today. Its all about weight and a fantastic transmission ripped straight from the guts of the Ford Taurus SHO. 0-60MPH in 7.8 seconds bone stock.

Find some in that condition and I'll applaud you.

Agreed with Zamrambo.
Also, I wouldn't get a Ford if I were you.

Find one that still exists, and I'll applaud you. You'll be lucky to have an American car last over 115,000 miles, and you'll be lucky to find a 1992 that has under 120,000 miles. Buy some cheap foreign car like a Celica All-Trac, and turbo charge it. It'll be a lot faster than any of those.
edit: I'm pretty OCD today, so I had to fix my misspelled"Celica".
I've already got one. Mine just wasn't the "sport" model. As for finding one in that condition, you are damn right. Near impossible. I can only wish, but its not impossible so don't shatter my dreams.

I myself have a Ford. It's just hard finding parts unless you want to pay a fortune and Ford is going meh in general.

Second that. My family has had bad luck with Ford's for years. The only reason we keep getting them is because my uncle gets us huge discounts.
3 months after getting our Ford Freestyle, the engine exploded on the NJ Turnpike. I'm not exaggerating in the least bit. It blew up. They didn't give us any money for it either.

Ugh. I wish my parents would let me drive. 16 and I don't even have a permit...

A couple months back there was this red 1992 GLS on eBay for $1,900. Dunno the miles. Also, my 1989 has 85,200 miles. Also, these are extremely reliable cars despite what anyone else has to say on the matter.
As nice as the Celica sounds I'm a Ford guy. I figure if all my family's dozens of Fords have served us well, why stray from the tradition of fine quality, reliable, fun-to-drive cars? Not saying they're better then others, but my family and I have been very satisfied with them over the decades. I'm not denying the fact the Tempo GLS isn't incredibly fast. Quick at best. I love these cars for whatever reason, and in Alaska at least, they are more practical then any other car out there. Great in the snow, fantastic fuel economy, reliable, spacious, and they feel like very high quality products.
Plus, finding an AWD Celica in Alaska is a heck of a lot harder then finding a GLS.

lol- didn't notice you were in Alaska, I can see why that would be tough. Out of the two you showed, I'd go with the Topaz.

Celica All-Trac is already turbo charged. 190hp with Turbo, however, the only quality build of them was from '87-'89, so the nice ones are hard to find. I would seriously kill for an All-Trac to replace my GTS. Ive only ever seen one, and that was even more rusted than my GTS.
Clearly you are new to the car forums. Tempos are like a fetish here.

i knew it was going to be a tempo!

GT-Four?
170hp turbo charged AWD.

Screw all that, this is Tempo. Watch how front wheel drive takes the corners, and fully independent suspension tames the surface.

Eh, it an All-Trac here.
And its 190hp, though they produced a few different models ranging from 180hp-220hp. The 190hp '87-'89 was the only one ever produced that was even remotely reliable.

I want a 1 inch body lift and new shackles for the leaf springs

Actually I just want a spare tire that won't rape my stock tire carrier.

Really? I guess thats why my Pontiac Bonneville I had was 165,xxx when I sold it.. thats why my Suburban on all original parts except the rear axle cuz of me pulling burnouts and hitting dry spots with 197,000 miles when i sold it, and my impala with 139,000 miles don't count. Shut up you ignorant fuck, you have no idea what you just pulled outta your ass.

My Dad's got an all original F-150 with just under 300,000 miles and its cost us literally no extra money from unplanned failings. It needed a new clutch at 220,000 miles, but hey, its a stick.
My trucks pushing 120,000 and its got everything original. Except the three clutches, front strut, aaand its got serious lighting issues (blows bulbs monthly). But hey, its a Chevy. Poor quality, indestructible engines that might as well last forever.

I too, would love a GLS, LTS, or XR5. Hell I'd even take an LS.
