I went to a new therapist today, and obviously, i need to get wamred up to her, but at some point, I will need to admit as to whether or not I have been feeling suicidal
what she would do if she knew that i think about suicide everyday, that i took a bottle of bleach from the laundrey room and stashed it somewhere in the garage to make sure its there in case i need it, or that I have a nonlegal will written up and hidden with the bleach.
What DOES a therapist do when they find that out?

They're legally bound not to tell anything that you tell them.

WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE SUICIDAL, THEY WILL COMMIT YOU TO A MENTAL HOSPITAL

They can't reveal what you tell them,

unless they feel that you or someone is in danger. So, if you were to tell them you're gonna kill urself, they would call your parents.

i go to a therapist..

and basically... you can talk all you want about how much you want to die and all that..and i think you could even mention the bleach..
its just when you become an IMMEDIETE risk..like "im going to kill myself" "im going to drink that fucking bleach tonight"
that she can tell... idk just use common sense..

That's actually not quite true

They can commit you to a mental hospital, and put you on prescription. In order to get the prescription, you're going to need a parent.

Therefore, your secret ain't so secret.

She's going to help you dissect the feelings that make you want to die and hopefully get you past them. If she feels you are in serious and immediate danger of ending your life, or causing harm to yourself or others, she can commit you to a hospital on suicide watch.

I wish you luck. I think you should tell her on the next visit- don't wait.

depending on their privacy policy, they may do anything from suggest more intensive therapy to telling your loved ones. personally, i would be the one to tell your loved ones that you need their love and support, but i wouldn't betray a patient's trust, and risk things getting drastically worse.

on the topic of depression management, have you consulted with a doctor to determine the possibility of medication on top of therapy?

By law. if they belive that you are willing to hurt yourself or hurt someone else they must report you and take immidiate action.

I dont know what you are going threw and im not going to pry, but if u wish to talk you may PM me

Mine told my mum that "i was of no more than average risk for a depressed person, and therefore there is no need for her to be extra vigilant"
So he basically told her to butt out because i said that her knowing would make it worse.

My psychologist isnt allowed to tell anyone anything i say unless it severely endangers me or another child.
I was given the option of being hospitalised rather than have mum watching my every move if she suspected me of being suicidal :s

i talk to my therapist about being suicidal all the time... he thinks that i'm perfectly sane. my dad also knows that i think about it a lot, i think he chooses to just pretend it's not there. anyway, my therapist seems to think i'm not at risk, although he did say... "i trust you to call me if you start thinking about seriously hurting yourself..." *rolls eyes* who's gonna call their therapist during the holidays? not me...
