Yes, the prime of her life, gone, and she's making it worse. Is there any point in trying to fix it now that she probs can't get into a stellar college or anything   -- Posted by marshmellowman at 2:55 pm on Dec. 25, 2008 Yes, because what you do now will probably decide what you do for the rest of your life. You can do plenty of things during this year if you wish to apply for college next autumn. You can start volunteering to aid your college transcript, you can start hunting for universities you might like to go to and seeing what their entry requirements are, etc. You don't have to go to an amazing college to get a good degree, nor is degree absolutely necessary to gain employment, although it does help. If you don't wish to take the university route, you can always go straight into employment, or do something like an apprenticeship. But it's important you start looking for jobs soon, because the older you get without much experience, the harder it'll be to find a job. It all comes down to one vital question: What do you want to do with your life? We can't really decide for you. You need to find out what you like doing, something you can make a career out of, or if it can only work out as a hobby for you, perhaps some area of employment you're interested in or some place where you wouldn't mind working. The last thing you want is to be stuck in a job you hate with no other promotional or career prospects. I don't know what it's like in the US, but here in the UK we have a place called JobCentre where they help anyone to look for jobs they want to do and to get a successful application. For teens there is also Connexions which bridges the gap from secondary education to university or to a workplace, and will help you along the way. I'd suggest going to your high school careers advisor (if you have one), but I believe you've graduated so it wouldn't be of much use. You might try phoning them up and asking, you never know what they'll say, they may say yes as you're a former student. Either way, you have to take pro-active action and decide what you want to do with your life, not just sit at home and laze around. I can't beat MMM for length but i will second a lot of what he said. Yes. It is always better to fix your life, no matter how late you are. So perhaps you can't get into harvard..but there are a lot of good schools out there that you can get into. If you never shape up, you won't get into any college if that is what you want. There are also a lot of non-college options, including technical schools (that care little about your grades) sales jobs, and other jobs in the work force.
