I rushed last year and was cut hard from every sorority. I was heartbroken. I am not giving up and I want to try again. I feel that by not trying again I will show that I am weak. Does anybody have any ideas on how to prove everyone wrong that I am sorority material and make people want me in there house?

kiss up to the leaders, and do some things you never thought you'd do.

The president does not have any say because she is graduating.  What do you mean do some things I've never done before?

Lol, enjoy being ostracized for not being in a sorority.

Seriously, what does it matter anyway?

I feel like I will be left out if I don't join.  Most of my friends are in them.  I also feel like I will regret it later on in life.

If I don't join one.

And you're going to make a lot of new friends when you start college.  If you're basing your entire college experience on your soritity that you may/may not get into...then you're going to college for the wrong reasons.

I am a sophmore.  I am already in college.

If you're already a soph, then it's going to be even more difficult to join since you're almost halfway through with school.

-- Posted by bcswimmergal at 8:42 pm on Dec. 25, 2008

I understand that.  So how do I wow them?  I go to a small school of 800 students and almost everyone is in one.  I feel extremely left out.

Make sure you look good, have good grades, are out-going, and are involved in a ton of stuff outside of class.

I model, was the secretary of ISA last year, programs manager of our radio station this year, have a 3.0, am on the swim team, and I am a social butterfly.

If you do all that, then how are you goign to have time to handle the sorority obligations?

-- Posted by bcswimmergal at 9:01 pm on Dec. 25, 2008

Easy our school is a very small one we can do anything we put our heart too.

Why?

I'm in a sorority and I think the best advice is to be yourself!  The worst thing you can do is try to put on a show and then find out that you don't fit in to a house afterall.

Also a good tip is to meet as many girls in the house as possible.  And really show how enthusiastic you are about joining.  Also, appearance is a factor.  Not that they are going to decline you if you are ugly... we aren't that shallow.  But a girl you dresses to impress while rushing is going to look a lot better than a girl who just came from the gym in her sweats.

I suggest doing some research on the chapters you are most interested in and definitely target your favorites.  Find a sorority that has ideals you agree with, a philanthropy you support, maybe even a sorority that has a symbol that means something to you.  For example, one of my sisters chose our chapter because our chapter jewel is her birthstone, and that was meaningful to her.  And express that reason to the girls you talk to and they will be impressed in your thoroughness.  A lot of this information can be found on chapter websites.  If you don't express interest in a certain chapter, the girls are going to think you are more interested in going somewhere else.

Basically sororities are looking for strong women who will represent their sorority in a positive light who will be great active members of their chapter while fitting in with the ideals of their chapter.

Good luck, and I hope you find the perfect fit!

I'm sorry to admit it, but quite honestly, a lot of sororities will cut girls because of their looks.  So, maybe get a makeover, or something.  Some houses can be really picky about who they take, and you need to make yourself all around more competitive.

I think maybe they can sense that you're going in for the wrong reasons
