Okay, so my sister has a two year old Gateway lap top and it suddenly stopped charging. Its not the battery, but the lap top itself that's not accepting the power cord. I know this because we've been switching the batteries back and forth for the past two days (which cant be good, but I have no choice in the matter) I'll be hooked up to my power cord and about every hour she'll come in with her dead battery to switch it off so I can charge the dead one and she can suck the juice out of the charged one. What's wrong? My computer's even older than hers (almost 4 years) and if this is due to a virus or something I'm cutting her off! At our dad's house she just got a new computer and her old one was only two years old. Meanwhile I'm using a perfectly functioning one that's seven years old.

The real question is, why do your parents love her more?

Ok right now stop doing that. Also if it is under warranty she can send it back. With U switch back and forth it is going to ruin Ur charger and U don't want that. It could be a virus but U never know. She needs to get her laptop look at.

Well, if anything it will ruin the battery--not the charger. For some reason her computer just isn't accepting the power cord even though it has a perfectly functioning battery.

I'm allowed to put my expenses on a tab for my dad to pay off at the local Mexican restraunt. He's friends with the management. Can you say, "FREE CHALOPAS!!!" Yes, that makes me a Beaner as well.

I went to school for computers and I know that it will ruin both of them really.

-- Posted by Niick at 1:35 pm on Jan. 4, 2009
Lithium Ion batteries naturally lose their charge, so it's normal that after 2 years it would only last about an hour.

The battery is not the problem! It is the computer itself that is not accepting the power cord. I know that batteries get weaker with age, mine used to last for three hours but now it can only go without power for like 45mins.

have your work cut out for you to have to do something you know will be difficult. If that report is going to be finished by tomorrow, she has her work cut out for her.

Have you tried a different AC adapter? If so, the ac port is fucked/something has come loose, and needs to be disassembled and repaired.
