Why, OH WHY, do people go crazy angry over films or books. A recent film/book being Twilight. So many people are like "OMG, I hate Twilight soooo much, it makes me so fucking angry! Grrr!"

But then when it comes to hearing about someone getting raped or murdered they are like "Oh...too bad" and then they get on with life.

Can someone please explain this to me?

-- Posted by Lulu Nobody at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

Twilight is the reason why rapists exist.

-- Posted by lmc11591 at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

it's insanium in the cranium.

-- Posted by horseeyesss at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

people are dumb :(

-- Posted by zerothedrummer21 at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

People are stupid.  Plain and simple.

-- Posted by MystiqueBeauty16 at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

I think the people who say they hate Twilight so much are just as bad as the worst fanatics.

They only make the situation worse.

-- Posted by Vana at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

I know I get tired of hearing it

-- Posted by LeanneS at 4:08 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

I have no idea...to let a film make you angry is pretty stupid

-- Posted by W o n d e r l a n d at 4:09 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

I get crazy angry over both

-- Posted by Rawrzerz at 4:09 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

People are morons?

-- Posted by lovelyshadows19 at 4:09 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

Haha. I saw that movie. It was pretty good in my opinion. But anyway, either they really hate the popular thing in question or they're just hating it to be different. =P

-- Posted by iiina at 4:09 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

They're dumbfucks.
And they're selfish. They're frustrated b/c somebody else's vision is different from their own and there isn't anything they can do about it.

I KNOW. THANK YOU!

-- Posted by superTy at 4:10 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

cos the fact that twilight exists is worse than someone being raped or murdered...

-- Posted by will m at 4:11 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

Hmmm, well firstly being that passionate about these things should be encouraged, it's called having an opinion.

However, most people don't react how you think they should react to things like murder and rape because it's actually too hard to take in without witnessing anything. It's the same with mass murder, you'd think people would be horrified at so many deaths, but it is so hard to comprehend we usually feel very little.

The same goes with one of Stalin's famous quotes :
The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of a million is a statistic.

THIS.

I've never seen the movie nor read the book.
So, I have no say in the whole Twilight phenom.

-- Posted by iiina at 4:13 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

but still, i don't think i want to see the movies.
b/c i still want to be able to envision the book the way i did when i first read it.
which sounds kinda stupid. but i don't see the point of seeing a movie when you already know that it's probably going to override your mental picture of a book you really like, especially if you already know how it ends..

But it's just a book and a film about love. >< And whats even worse is that people get angry cause it doesn't describe vampires as they really are...but in reality, vampires don't even exist! Someone made them up, who cares if someone makes them out to be good or different in a book and film?

><

A lot of people hate just because other people like.

EXACTLY! Because they care about there opinions as if there life and thoughts are more important then anything else. I hated twlight (until I actually SAW it and fell in love with it) But you don't go on and on about your opinion. Say it once, and get over yourself.

-- Posted by Thatotherguy at 4:15 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

Twilight is a piece of shit.

It's great if you spend your time talking about things you love. Not waste time ranting about something as silly as a book or film.  I have read and seen Twilight, it's not great, but I liked it. There isn't anything to hate on in it. And I think most people just hate it cause it's popular. And thats what annoys me.

Also, I get very angry over rapes and murders etc. I don't see why other people can't do the same, instead of wasting time hating a film and book about love.

You say there's nothing to hate about it, well that is totally subjective, you cannot explicitly say that and be correct. Also, I'm sure people would agree that rape and murder is wrong obviously, however, everybody's emotional reaction to hearing about it is bound to be different. I myself when I see death on the news don't react anywhere near how I would react to let's say my best friend dying....Because there's no emotional connection you only see the death objectively and so people cannot be expected to have a compassionate emotional response.

I didn't say I was right. The point is, people need to put more effort into thinking about serious issues in the world, and not bashing a love story.

-- Posted by will m at 4:38 pm on Jan. 4, 2009

No I disagree, I think time has to be put into a range of seriousness in your thoughts, because there is so much wrong in the world doesn't mean you can't think about the trivial affairs of a love story, it's it is mentally and emotionally stimulating.

Also, it seems as though you want to allow the people who have positive opinions to comment about it, but banning people with a negative point from expressing their opinion. It's a double standard.

Again, your not getting what I am saying. I don't mean that we should abandon all personal thoughts and opinions, but if we are gonna get angry about something to get angry over a serious issue - doesn't have to be rape or whatever. Even a serious issue in your own life. I am also not saying that your not allowed to hate books or films. Cause you are, but do it in a different manner. Too many people just constantly go on about how much they hate Twilight. But for what reason? There are plenty of things I hate but I don't constantly go on about it. I would rather talk about things I do like - especially when it comes to books or films. If I don't like a book or film I say "That wasn't good, didn't like it" and then I move on. And it's pretty obvious that people are hating on Twilight cause it's popular. Or because a lot of people talk about it. Which again, I think is the wrong thing to do.

Ok I see what you're saying :) But it's not necessarily anger that these people are expressing, maybe they're just passionate about expressing their honest opinion as all people should. I agree that if people got genuinely angry about it it would be pretty ridiculous, but in most cases I've just seen inarticulate people attempting to express their dislike for the film the only way they know how: by insults

-- Posted by amiee at 12:09 pm on Jan. 5, 2009

Being angry over shit books and movies is easier to express than being angry over something like rape or murder, I think. Rape and murder are awful, awful things to even think about so having a rant about how shit Twilight is, firstly, a more social activity (rather than silencing your crowd with a speech about rape) and is also more lighthearted, y'know? Rape and murder are so much more taboo than a shitty film and book, and much harder to speak about.

Why people go mental over trivial crap like Twilight is completely beyond me but for some people those things matter, I guess. Sometimes people just don't like hearing about the realities of life because it all points toward how shit reality is/can be. Some people can also distance themselves from these sort of things (rape, murder, such things) and not become involved enough to feel the need to express how it makes them feel. imo, anyway.
