I'm 18, a high school senior, and I hate living at home! I don't get along with my family, I want to be independent, and I'm gonna be leaving in not too long for college anyway. I know that it would kill my parents, but I can't handle the conflict that goes on. I work (in fact, I have two jobs), and I have a friend who would definitely be willing to split an apartment with me (we've talked about it before), and he's rich, so we'd definitely be OK financially...I'm just not sure. I've been looking into it, and I've also thought about just getting a room because that's a lot cheaper! What do you guys think?

Well you're Eighteen now, so you can make your own decisions but think carefully before you do make any decisions and don't be too hasty about it, think about pro's and con's before you even start to think about moving. Your parents have to let you go sometime and as long as you have somewhere stable to live and some income they should accept you moving out, you are old enough now and just explain to them you don't want to be living at home forever because another chance to move out might not come around any time soon. I say, have a long think about it, and if you want to, then go for it, because it could be the best decision you ever made

The thing is, I have thought about it. A lot. I've wanted to move out for about a year and a half, and over the summer, I made a plan and did pros and cons like you said, just in case. I only turned 18 a couple months ago though so nothing could happen for awhile.

Well, If you're happy and you want to move out then when possible I say go for it, explain to your parents you have been thinking about this for a long time, tell them it wasn't a hasty decision and that you know you're ready. They will understand.

I actually don't know that they will...Especially because I've mentioned it whilst mad because that's when I think about it most.

Well sit calmly and tell them, they may be a bit upset at first but they're your parents and breaking the chain from your parents is never easy, whilst you're still there, just keep proving to them that you're grown up and mature and it might help take the pressure off of you moving out and they might feel better about letting you go. Whenever you feel you're going to get mad, just breath deep and stay calm, that way they can see you growing up from once being a teenager.

not a good idea. my brother left home as soon as he turned 18. unfortunately his appartment turned into a party house. tons of drinking went on, and he died for alcohol poisoning. prior to dying, he lost friends and family ties from fighting over finances and other personal bbelongings. it's not worth it

I don't party at all...Nor does my friend who I could get an apartment with. And we both have school to worry about, go that would be #1.
