I feel silly for even bringing this up, which is why I made this anonymous but I have been having this urge to pick up a hobby... one in particular...

I want to paint. So bad, but I feel like... hahah I am too old to want to start at something... like it is too late you know? I am only 16, I know this is a stupid thought but still I can't help but think in this way...

So I will push it to the back of my head and tell no one I have started... I get embarrassed easily and no one ever seems to support what I want to do...

Is there any advice? Any people who paint and can give me some tips on how to get started or whatever?

Helpp.

Grab a big piece of canvas, some paint, and just go, it doesn't matter if its amazing, start off with just applying color to a blank canvas.

It's not hard and you're not too old - I seriously got into painting (well I took an art class in high school) when I was 15. Just get some paper, pick an easy reference picture and go. I suggest you start with graphite, or acrylics. IMO they're the easiest mediums.

I didn't start painting till I went to college. I only dabbled here and there.

I'd suggest looking online at painters you like and seeing what they do that you like. Then grab some paint, some brushes, a big ol' canvas and go nuts. Try different techniques, try different mediums.

EXPERIMENT

don't get embarrassed over stuff like that. everyone starts at some point. yes, some sooner than others. but don't give up.
message me if you need anything!

I started when I was sixteen. Sign up for a beginners class at a community college or art school. No need to be embarrassed. Most of the people in those classes are in their fifties and just starting to paint.

Or, if that option isn't available, go to a craft store, and ask for some help. They may or may not be able to help you start off. Teaching books are also helpful sometimes.

No, its never too late! my aunt got me a really nice set of paints, brushes and a canvas. start there. develop an individual style or look at books and how-tos. to start, maybe just throw some paint

good luck!
