This means that if you're a carrier to a genetic disease (which, I imagine a lot of us are as it doesn't affect us)...and have a child with someone who is also a carrier (which is far more likely if you come from the same set of genes...your mother and father), there will be no gene to counteract the faulty gene, therefore the child will be more likely to develop a serious genetical (and usually incurable) disease. Before the first land-dwelling amphibians emerged, there were beings resembling fish-amphibian hybrids. Much how we would regard web-fingered or extra-toed children produced through incest. They are the next step in the progression of the human race.
