-- Posted by DarkSunshine at 8:03 pm on Jan. 6, 2009 I was just watching TV and a commercial came on for the 11 o-clock news. and apparently there is a new hazard that could potentially harm you, and you're family. 3rd hand smoke. the smell that clings to smokers clothing and sometimes to smokers themselves. It can have the same effect on you as first and second hand smoke. I don't know about you guys, But I think this is going a bit to far. Like common! you would have to stand next to a chain smoker with you're nose plastered to there side for YEARS! before it gave you anymore then a gross scent. It's just pathetic what lengths there going to. the scent of a smoker can give you cancer everyone! watch out. Don't walk down a city street everyday because you WILL DIE from lung cancer! so I think it's pathetic and there taking this smoking thing to far. as I said I can understand 1st and 2nd hang smoke as you're are inhaling relatively big amount of the smoke itself. But the smell off clothing.... A chain smoker that goes outside and smokes, so they dont have it near their family. The smell is still on their clothes though, and their family would be exposed to it. I developed asthma from my mum smoking around me, clearly 2nd hand smoke. And when I went to the doctor because I hadn't been able to breath for a few weeks, I had to take a weird test thingy. And then the doctor asked me if anybody smoked around me, and I said my mum, she started to talk about how to make my asthma better. One of the things she told me is not to have her smoke around me or even in the car anymore. Common sense, right? But then she went on to tell me that she should even change her clothes when coming back inside after smoking. Because it can linger on the clothes and even that could give me breathing problems. We never really thought of it as "3rd hand smoke" then, but now it kinda makes sense. My mum doesn't really smoke around me anymore. Maybe after a very long time. My uncle used to be a chain smoker. There are sooo many things that could potentially hurt us that if we tried to stay away from all of them.. well we wouldn't be able to move in fear of stubbing out toe and getting a blood blister
