My mom doesn't work and my stepdad is a retired corrections officer. Nothing that benefits me. It would be cool if my mom was a hairdresser so she could do my hair, or a teacher so she might be able to help out with school, or a doctor so she could take better care of me... Nothing too exciting. My uncle, however, is a retired nuclear physicist who worked on top-secret government projects during the Cold War. At one point, he helped with the "Star Wars" missile defense project. And then he did resarch work in and around Silicon Valley, where several of his colleagues went on to win Nobel prizes. So I got to meet great fashion designers like Paul Smith and Giorgio Armani. Christy Turlington, that fantasic model best known for Calvin Klein's fragrances was a friend of my mother's, and so I got to benefit for some lovely freebies, like even a Chanel long sleeved top. Yes, my late mother had many amazing connections. But the great thing is, those close to her have kept into contact with me. No names, for reasons of privacy but I feel very privileged.
