two men are sitting at a bar. Man one makes a very rude, insulting comment to the other man, a heated argument escalates, and man two punches man one square in the jaw. Was man two's choice to punch man one a decision based on logic or emotion?

if he was so logical he'd win the argument with logic

It really depends on what kind of logic man two uses. Some people honestly think that physical force is the way to go.. so it's not something that's completely emotionally related. However, if it's something that was done out of rage, just because he was angry, then I would say it's more emotional. Of course, both logic and emotion will play some role in it, but depending on the person involved, it could be more heavily swayed to either side.

emotion

Emotion takes care of the logic we don't care to think about. Like the propagation of life.

not necessarily logic is subjective from an outside perspective, logic dictates to try to win the argument verbally but from an internal perspective, evolution has driven logic to fight or flight: if something threatens you, you either kick the shit out of it to the best of your ability, or you gtfo. not so illogical, when you think about it. just socially illogical.

If the comment was really insulting it would be logical for a human to get violent.

evolution doesn't always drive us to do the most logical things now does it? Evolution makes it instinctive for fourteen-year-olds to fuck around with each other, but that's none too logical

Looks like emotion's the winner. If guy one was taunting guy two, it was just base instinct for emotions to kick in and help defend him from them. If logic was the winner, guy two would know that guy one knew nothing about him and probably would just walk away to prevent anything bad from happening. =P

Neither, he's just drunk.

Again, socially in basic principals, in a more balanced playing field, a non-predatory (ftmp) species, such as we WERE, would be best to reproduce ASAP, or at the exact time of sexual maturity. Greater chance of prolonged species-wide survival that way. that's true of any species, in fact.

logic is associated with conciousness and fight/flight is never a concious decision - it's a reflex-driven impulse, and reflexes operate autonomously without concious processing, otherwise it would make for a one slow and useless reflex and thus can never be justified as a logical decision. But either way you cant use the "fight or flight" mechanism to support your argument in this case anyway unless you're talking about guy B's reaction to guy A's attack

instinct =/= logic
