We were watching this show called secret life and he thinks if someone takes responsibility for there child because of something that happened to that person it's not "real" because of a "alternative motive" But I think that's a really good thing and not fake at all... What do you think? The guy were talking about was abused and put in a foster home he doesn't want his kid to end up with a bad childhood

Wait, what? The Secret Life of the American Teenager, if that's what you mean by "Secret Life" is a ridiculously unrealistic show anyway.

Well, I would say the fact that he doesn't want his child to have the same childhood as his/her father because it was not so enjoyable. It is only right to want someone you love dearly to have a good childhood, to have a good life. So that is what I think is right.

You're both right. Taking responsibility just because you think you have to means that your actions aren't genuine and not done out of love or anything, but it's still a good thing to do most of the time.
