Tha Carter I and Tha Carter II are both phenomenal albums, and his mixtapes, especially The Drought is Over Part 2: Tha Carter III Sessions, are nothing short of masterpieces a majority of the time. As time has gone by, he has fallen off greatly in terms of lyrical ability.
