I'm not a fan either, but a third generation grill would look funky all alone. I don't want to give the impression it was just a slap on part replacement because I couldn't find another tri-bar grill.

    I liek the second one.

Man, I thought this was a topic about teeth.  What a let down.

    Second pic.

    [Lolz, take that mod.]

If I see one more "I thought this topic was about teeth" comment, it will confirm my suspicion that this generation is officially retarded.

Not my best work, but overall I am satisfied at how it came out.

Your just wasting your money on this car.

-- Posted by FTF at 7:47 pm on Jan. 9, 2009

Perhaps. But eh, I just dunno.

    -- Posted by soldierofjustice3 at 8:01 pm on Jan. 9, 2009

Well if you black out all the other chrome, and leave the lights alone, or just *lightly* tint them, it would probably mesh pretty well. The 3rd gen does look a bit more up to date, rather than the plastic chrome stuff.

    REMOVE LICENSE PLATE FRAME KTHX

-- Posted by FTF at 8:27 pm on Jan. 9, 2009

Didn't think of that. Could black that chrome band on the bumper out up front, maybe get some clear turn signals, then the third generation grill and it might look alright.

@Eric, front plates are required up here. That front end shot is from before it was insured and registered. I'm sure you've noticed the front plate before, but if not:

Got the new 50th Anniversary of Statehood plates too.

The bonus of driving a new car, in stupid states that require front license plates, is you get to just lie and say the dealership hasn't given you one yet.

You say its stupid yet your like the only country in the world that dosen't require front plates, and due to the car being designed to have them there, it looks gay without.

No Australian, you are wrong. Not all cars are designed to have front plates.

Michargan hasnt required front plates since 1981

    -- Posted by whrocky5092 at 8:56 am on Jan. 10, 2009

first one looks much nicer. the second one is like the prostitute(putting itself out there)

Here's my recommendation punky, keep the car in running shape, don't throw money on cosmetic changes because in the end its not really worth it for that car. Start saving up for a more newer car where it will be worth it to throw money at.

I've yet to buy a car where the front plate was built into the design. Its always some cheesy plastic attachment.

the impalas bumper is molded for a plate.. but without the plate there, they have a filler piece that clips in.

Ah yes but this serves as functional as well. The 3rd. gen. grills are closed off right, as opposed to the tri-bar's more open-to-the-air design. In Alaska its so cold, that literally everyone is finding ways to close their grills off from the cold air. Cardboard duct taped onto grills, blankets wrapped around Chevy egg grate grills, plastic bin covers.

I just figure putting a more closed off grill on is better then cardboard.

    -- Posted by ScoobyDoo82 at 9:17 am on Jan. 11, 2009

Dude thats still enough air getting through to kill it, you HAVE to put something over it. Follow your fellow Alaskans and put a damn blanket over the grill, or cardboard or something.

-- Posted by FTF at 1:58 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

I don't need to listen to you people in Michigan. With your damned electric heaters and yer warmth.

    -- Posted by ScoobyDoo82 at 2:11 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

Fine, dont listen to me, get 92-94 grille, put it on your car, and tell me how much warmer it will keep the engine.

-- Posted by FTF at 2:48 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

Not much, but an improvement. I actually got this idea from someone else btw. The 3rd. gen. grills have, what, one little slot at the bottom of the grill. The rest is sealed off. Mine has 4 in total.

-- Posted by IMPALA at 3:01 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

it will not make much difference in the end.. if you knew anything of automotive cooling systems you would know that.

a $.50 piece of cardboard will do much more than a $10+ grille will in the way of insulation to provoke heat.

-- Posted by FTF at 3:24 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

    1. Guys at TTCCNA said yeah, the third generation grills will reduce airflow into the engine a little bit.
    2. I can't imagine cardboard is going to stop much more air then a solid grill.
    3. I know a guy who made a custom grill for his Ford just to seal off all major gaps.
    4. EVERY little bit counts. You guys wouldn't know that.
    5. I am more inclined to believe experts and fellow Tempo owners then two Chevy fan boys.
    6. I think a new grill would look better then the lid to a storage bin being nailed on.

I know, you, Eric of all people wouldn't duct tape, nail, or staple cardboard and bin tops to the grill of your Impala.

    -- Posted by ss454 at 3:37 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

Or you could, you know, put something behind the grill and paint it....

Aren't there enough trashed ugly ass Tempos on the road?
