Oh so false.

I had my lip pierced. I took it out very recently. Make sure you pierce it straight, so it doesn't sit crooked if you use a stud and not a ring. Where you want the hole to be is really upto you, because that is where your jewelry will be.

Just know that your lip will swell and it will be huuuuge for a few days. Mine was pretty badly swollen =\ Haha.

Oh you'd be amazed what piercings can do. Eyebrow piercings can make one side of your face droop from nerve damage. Lip piercings can have a similar effect, depends where you get it pierced... Tongue... well there is a main vain so, big trouble there. If you get your web done on your hand it can paralyse your hand.

I rinsed my mouth with antibacterial mouth wash, sterilized the area, and marked the spot I was going for on the inside and out. Didn't measure, just checked to be sure it was centered, and avoiding any major veins.

I'm hoping you have sterile equipment and the right jewelry... Throw on a pair of gloves. Open up the equipment and jewelry (don't let it touch anything). Use the clamp to pull your lip away from your teeth, make sure the marks you made are dead center in both clamp circles, line the needle up and push it through (not all the way, though). Then line the jewelry up with the back of the needle, push through, and secure the jewelry. All done.

But for the sake of being responsible, you should really have it done professionally. Having the right equipment isn't everything. Experience means a good bit.

Oh, and toss everything after you're done unless you have access to an autoclave.  Don't poke holes with anything that hasn't been sterilized (no rubbing alcohol or boiling it does not count).
