Your second sentence makes no sense.

But if I understood correctly, yes the U.S. would be much better off without Hispanics.

idk i'm white so it doesn't matter to me

It calls for false bragging rights...If it meant anything, I would say I was born in Kenya like our soon to be president.

well now. i think you should try asking someone in their sixties or older that question and seeing what kind of response you get. lmfao if you're hispanic my g-parents probably wouldn't talk to you. they're horribly racist.

-- Posted by Sarge at 7:42 pm on Jan. 11, 2009

Not at all. People are people, whether they're White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, etc.

Race isn't impostant except for the race obsessed and those who want to do stats research for social studies.

Ethnicity is interesting if you want to explore your heritage and the culture of your parents and grandparents. But even ethnicity isn't a big deal overall for individuals. Its all about the past and it is interesting because history for groups of people is interesting. But it doesn't have to a have an impact on each individual.

What is important for each of us really is who you choose to be yourself and what you do and what your own future is about.

Race and ethnicity is really only as important as you make it. For some, they identify with it so much that they cannot separate their individual self from their race or ethnicity, and as a result, have a very racially focused viewpoint on most things. For others, race or ethnicity has very little relevance, and as a result, they can get along fine without even thinking about it. Most, however, are somewhere in between the two extremes. Really, it's your choice on whether you believe race or ethnicity is truly important or not.

I think this is the best way to put it.

That said, though, one should bear in mind that you can't exactly ignore it if everybody else pays attention to it.  Just because something is socially contructed doesn't make it any less real.  If a particular group tends to hold their race as an integral part of their identity more than most others, this will have ramifications and they would have to be addressed one way or another.

That depends on the person too. For instance...I knew a heavily obese girl who thought she was thin. Everybody told her otherwise; but she was persistant to believe she was sexy.

I think there are people with the willpower to ignore race even in the chaos of it all.

Well the media seem to think it is of extreme importance when they mention the obvious fact that we are about to inaugurate our first black president.

All while trying to pretend that race doesn't matter to them.

Obviously it matters to a lot of ppl not just the media.

Our whole country is into making race a big deal otherwise they wouldn't have made special laws to prevent blacks from escaping slavery and made race-based segregation laws.

If only there was no color in this world....

I think race and ethnicity helps us know where we come from, which allow us to move forward.
