4 lines on my leg break the promise I made to myself not 12 days ago. I said I would make 2009 the first year in a long time that I would be able to say "I didn't cut at all this year" but I ruined it, just like I always ruin it. And why, you may ask? I don't even fucking know. Opportunity I guess. Fuck Me, I've got no hope to ever be clear of this.

Don't go by year at a time! That is nearly impossible. Most cutters try to get by a day at a time so don't kill yourself over that.

You will get clear of it. Promise. A year is a long time. You made it through 12 days, plan to get through 12 days again. Then another 12, and another 12, and so forth.

I've so long before... I've gone a whole 6 months before... so I made the year goal to try and push my limits and see how far I could go. Before today, it was October 17th. I just don't know WHY. Thanks for the advice though.

Still, that's pretty well done. It's only 4 lines. It could have been much worse. Congratulate yourself on how well you've done and focus on the cutting-free future.

Don't take it out on yourself so much. If you're trying to go "cold turkey," especially on your own, you're not doing so bad. Don't just expect to get up one day and say, "Hey, I'm going to quit cutting for good." Hardly anyone can do that. It'll take some time, and you'll have a lot of slips, but you just have to have faith and just remember that you quitting is all for the better. You can try distracting yourself whenever you feel the urge to cut yourself. Are there things you enjoy? Coloring, drawing, dancing, singing, listening to music, or just going out with friends can help distract you from wanting to cut yourself. Even just watching television or a movie can help distract you when you're unable to go outside. Just remember that what you're doing isn't an easy thing to give up, especially if you've been doing it for a very long time, and you've become used to its routine. Don't be too hard on yourself. Just remember, the point is to get over cutting. Have you tried talking to a friend or a family member about this? Have you ever considered going to a professional about this problem? Many people have different reasons for cutting, such as depression. Perhaps talking about this with a friend or writing it down will help you get it out of your system. Also, try looking through this LW topic for more information on cutting and what you can do besides cutting. You can always PM me if you ever want to talk.

Its ok you havent ruined it. Stopping cutting can be like losing weight...dont go by months or even weeks...go day by day and even if you mess up one day you are allowed to slip up now and then just keep on trucking and in no time you will have stopped.
