It's that time again, the time of no school and 2 months of 5 hours a day of programming(on average depending how late I stay up; don't program when the sun shines)! This year I decided to have a gander at making my own AIM client which makes use of the OSCAR protocol. I've started to do my research on the protocol and look at the source code for GAIM(written in C but same basic principle). Probably won't be programming for atleast anouther week. Just so much to read on it.

I would like to invite anyone who has knowledge of the OSCAR protocol or Java if they want to help.

unfortunately. i only do c/c++ at the moment.. i have done some java in the past..as 'good' as i might be when it comes to programming.. it isnt what im best at...

question though.. why waste time on  something that's already there.. yeah its gonna be "different".. but shouldnt u waste your time on something more.. innovative

I could, but I can't stand aim, and gaim's direct connecting and file sharing doesn't work which is my only pet peeve with it. I'm also doing it to mess around with Java some more.

Sorry to bump the topic, but this forum isn't very traffic-heavy so I figured it wasn't too bad of a sin. How is the program coming along? I'm taking my first Java class this semester, so I was just curious.

We started but google had this summer of coding things and one of the projects was to fix the file transfer for gaim. Why reinvent the wheel you know? So we stopped.
