I am sick of people saying, "No, I am Catholic" in response to someone asking if they are a Christian. A Christian is a general follower of Christ, and Catholicism is a denomination of the religion, but a Catholic is still considered a Christian. Please correct me if I am wrong and upset for no reason, lol

You're wrong. They are two seperate religions. Catholicism is even stricter than christians anyway.

-- Posted by copynpaste at 10:36 am on June 20, 2009

Yes, it is a denomination of Christianity.

-- Posted by metacarPi at 10:36 am on June 20, 2009

Honestly, I don't give a shit.

But I do think that Catholicism is a derivative from Christianity..

-- Posted by Lally at 10:37 am on June 20, 2009

Christianity has branches. Judiasm, Catholic, Pentecostal (me), baptist...etc.

-- Posted by TheOtherHorseman at 10:37 am on June 20, 2009

Catholicism is to Christianity as Apple is to Fruit.

Anyone, Protestant or Catholic, who says otherwise is just ignorant. For an example,  see pclueless92.

-- Posted by Explosion990 at 10:37 am on June 20, 2009

I'd rather not cite wikipedia, but it clearly states that Roman Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity.

Yes you're right.
Under Christianity comes Catholics, Protestants, Evangelists, Methodists etc.
They are all regarded as Christians.

Christianity is the belief in the Abrahamic God and Jesus as Christ the Savior who died for our sins.  Catholicism believes in this and thus is a Christian denomination.

Catholicism and Protestantism though are separate faiths, although both are still defined as Christian religions.

rofl, the people that say that to you evidently don't know their religion

-- Posted by Angel10 at 10:38 am on June 20, 2009

Do you really believe that Jews are Christians, or do you just have no idea what you're talking about?

-- Posted by PolskiBabe at 10:39 am on June 20, 2009

-- Posted by LudovicoTechnique at 10:42 am on June 20, 2009

It's a denomination of it. So yes, it is Christianity.

-- Posted by yssuPevoLI at 10:43 am on June 20, 2009

Christianity has many forms, of which Catholics, Protestants, Baptists, Episcopalians and many more are a part .

Glad you have clueless in your name.

Yes it is a form of christianity.
Yes they are more strict than protestants but they still believe in jesus christ dieing on the cross.
Therefore they are christian.

There are two forms of christianity.
Protestant and Catholics.

People who say they are christian they are catholic prolly don't understand the whole religion thing to begin with and are just going along with it because it was how they were raised

Neither Catholics nor "Christians" are Christians.

http://christianity.about.com/od/denominations/p/christiantoday.htm

There are 38000 denominations that claim they are christian, all with very different takes on what it means to be a Christian. It is clear that there is no central criteria for being a Christian. You can claim it is "following Jesus", but that is too vague since "following" and "Jesus" are left undefined.

-- Posted by imatwirp at 9:43 pm on June 22, 2009

No.

It is a branch off from Christianity. Not a section of it.

Yes they believe in the same morals/values. But their belief is different.

ETC.

Not at all, since by "Christians" with quotes, I don't mean Christians (without quotes), but merely people who think they are Christians.

You didn't put quotes around Catholic...

Catholicism isn't a "branch" of Christianity.

Roman Catholicism was the original church that developed during the time of the Roman Empire, and later the Protestant churches split off from it.

In short, it's the trunk, and protestant sects are the "branches"

No.  Again, Christianity is the overall definition of religions which have faith in the Abrahamic God and Jesus as the Savior from sin.  That is why Catholicism is a 'branch' of Christianity.

Catholicism and Protestantism though are different in practices.
