Proper E is a time, indeed. Most definitely with music. And friends. And glow-sticks, ceiling fans, and cellphones, etc. But in response to the first question, for the same reason people seek sex. Essentially, to achieve a successful altered state is to reaffirm that we are actually alive. How this is true varies with each person. For example, I traveled to Washington State 5 years ago, climbed to the top of a mountain. My dopamine levels and endorphins were pumping strong that day. But, I had to pay for airfare and all associated expenses for going there. I take an opiate, for example, and reach the same levels of chemicals, and open that level of my brain. I only use drugs very rarely, though, to keep my brain fresh, so to speak.
