So, I am curious for everyone, and more specifically, the people who have application, why do you want it? I don't want some generic reason, I don't care if you think it will deface how the moderators see you, I just want to know what your reason is. Go go.

cause a few people suggested I should and I was like "hey why not?

Hey Tavis. I applied for a moderator position for a couple of reasons, but I'll try listing the most important and more rounded reasons. I'm majorly committed to this site. Not just the whole "WELL, I'll get on everyday just to get on" commitment, but a more sense of community. I feel that I can pull my weight and be supportive. At the same time, I feel I can accurately balance all the weight and pressure of being a moderator. Moderators have a lot of things to do, some might not have time to be as supportive as they once were, but I would consistently strive to better supporting livewire. I'm supportive now, as are all of you. I just feel that I can always up my game and continue to better myself not only in this area, but in other areas such as moderation. I feel that most people can stand out. Yet, I feel that if given a chance, I could rise above all expectations that are given to me. I would consistently exceed not only my daily procedures, but try to exceed the other moderators, and general members. Whether this be through support, how I handle situations, etc. I don't want it just because I think that it will be another thing to do. I would like the opportunity because I feel that I deserve the chance and that if faith were to be put in me, I wouldn't let anyone down. I love the central idea of a 'community' on LiveWire, and this would bring me closer to a mindset at being able to handle problems and situations which may occur among members, etc. Being a moderation isn't just a big step up from a support leader, but it allows a lot of extra power to be handled among a selected individual. Sometimes people fear that a new moderator, or even current ones, would become power-obsessed and misuse their given powers. This wouldn't be the case, for me. It would be a new position, yes. I wouldn't misuse the power. I tend to not let those things get to my head. I also want it because I feel I have a way of handling member situations differently than most. I try not to beat around the bush, or go to over the top. I'm always as supportive as can be, and never shy away from a topic or situation I know that I can answer. Each day I strive to help people, and this makes the world to me. So, in overall, why do I feel I want a position? I feel I can handle it, not become overzealous, stay supportive (or even become increased supportive), manage my time sparingly, work together as a team to develop new ideas and solve current issues facing the livewire team, and most importantly I would appreciate this because it is an important decision. I am a trustworthy person, honest, and I will always be there for not only our members, but the crisis we may face. (:

i know that but my point still stands. I'm sure a number of people who applied feel the same way you do.

I applied to be a moderator because first of all it would be a great experience, I think that I could have a positive impact on this site's direction, and to see if I actually would be promoted.

I was pushed quite hard by certain members, both times. I like to help and be constructive apparently. Which is odd, because I'm an ass. I know this is for applicants only, but I am an applicant! I just got accepted. :P

Your a ass, wot? I dont think so.

I'd like to contribute more to the site, in a nutshell. I don't like to watch helplessly as people abuse the site or other members, and I think doing something more for the site that has given a world of help, support and entertainment to me is the very least I could do. I really enjoy the site, and the members and can't help but feel like I should protect the values we share as a forum.

I am a dedicated member to the site, I've been here for quite a while and I've learned the ways of the site. I want to be able to support the site in more ways than I do now, whether it be technical through the Tech Forums or peer through eHelp and the support forums, the goal is to support. It would allow me to extend my reach to being able to interpret and shape guidelines as well as being able to keep things in check. I originally intended to do this entire reply in a sentence but, as you can see, I wasn't successful. I'm sorry if it sounds generic but, I'd much rather use what flows through my head instead of making a long explanation that nobody will read.

I never said it was only for applicants. I just said in more specific, for people who have applications in, but any SL is fine to reply.

I can go ahead and say this isn't going to be a long ass reply. Motive? I want to contribute to LW in a leadership manner that I know I'm capable of doing. And not just flat out doing it, but actually be good at it. There is a difference between just being a regular moderator that does this or that and a good moderator that contributes to, and stands up for, the success of this forum. I have the drive to put forth ideas, uphold guidelines and regulations, and work as a team member. To me, that's what it's all about. I've been here for a while and have learned valuable lessons. It's not just a matter of me doing this or that for this forum but rather how I've managed to use this forum to create a mutual relationship of benefits. I will bring to the moderation team not only experience from the forums but also experience from my life. I've devoted much time to this forum and have little regrets.

I was told by a lot of people to apply, and also because I wanted to really help behind the scenes. I'm the type of person who helps backstage of a play, organising and overseeing instead rather than actually being in the play. /bad analogy. But yeah I thought I could give input into policy discussions and bring new ideas, arguments and personality traits to the table.

sounds really cheesy etc, but i honestly just wanted a chance to give something back.

It only sounds cheesy for the first second of judgement, but then, I'm sure most of us think that it is actually true, and no matter what our reason, we all do want to help something that has helped us.

I just applied for moderation because I feel that my overall activity on the forums caters well to the daily routines and activities and forum etiquette that most mods are held accountable to. It wasn't a decision I made for any specific reason. It's just because I would sorta fit well there and know the community well through experience.

haha no, I wish. man am I really that passable? :( I wouldn't have wanted to mod in 2006 anyway, it was mostly just unregulated moderation. Guidelines were only interpreted independently by the moderator, so double standards were much more prevalent. We have policies now and it's ultimately better for the community. The only problem we have now are weird mod policies, gray area in policy, and any new wrench thrown into the structure (MJ trend spam, username change, etc) I've served on OB multiple times and we're much more flexible now. Flexibility better caters to reform and hence I want to offer feedback on how certain things can be done better. If my opinions are screwed up, I'm sure there's like a bagillion others that will aim to point out fallacies in my thinking. There's greater accountability now and hence I want in. :)

I like this topic though, it's like a tiny little gathering of all the SLs hoping to moderate. I'm sure the mods are lolling hard at this.
