to apply to college?

Sometimes, I hear people talking about getting additional recommendations from their instructors outside of school, or pastors or something.

I'm applying to some pretty selective schools, but I've never heard of this? They only ask for two teacher recs and a counselor.

Getting recommendations from people outside the school can show envolvment in other activities that arent just academic which looks good.

If you don't mind me asking, what schools are you applying to? Some really value additional recommendations from athletic coaches, music teachers, etc., especially if you are planning on participating in those activities in college.

It's nice to have various sources for recommendation, although getting them from your teachers are already a great source. Getting one from your pastor from your church will be nice too. www.HigherEdSpace.com

Which schools? I could probably help you figure that out. Typically you send the amount that they require plus one supplemental recommendation from an another adult who knows you well, like a teacher from a summer course, an employer you know well, a coach, etc.

EDIT: You could also bring this question to collegeconfidential.com on the specific forum for whichever schools you're talking about. You'd get a straight answer pretty easily there.
