I am currently designing a website for myself. I can't decide whether i want my site transparent or not. I like transparency, and i'd be able to change the look of the site dramatically by changing the background image. Although Transparency can make the site lag whilst scrolling on some older computers. It also isn't compatible with some browsers and it's used a lot. Here's an example. of the transparency. And here's the same image without transparency.

Keep the transparency! I assume your site is flash-based? As long as your site isn't too cinematic, old computers will be fine. Besides, a little low quality never hurt anyone~

Transparent buttons over photo backgrounds look weird, IMO. I'd just keep it solid and change up the banner or something when I wanted a change.

if it's just for you don't use it; it would probably slow the site down, no?

It's not flash based, Currently i'm still in photoshop designing. Would most likely be in html/css.

The background image is just something i got of Google which shows the transparency. I defiantly won't be having a real-life picture like the one shown above in that example.
