Of course it takes talent to capture a still event to a greater emotional depth than others could. There's so much techniques, forms and compositions involved. To say it's just taking a photo is highly insulting to those in the profession.

It takes skill and imagination.

Oh, and imagination is a great skill. Just a skill you can't learn.

Yes.

Taking 1,000 photos of your friends, using Photoshop to turn them black & white, and uploading them on Myspace does not make you a photographer.

-- Posted by meghank91 at 12:12 pm on July 3, 2009

it does but i mean, some people take beautiful pictures just by luck or with little skill. i think it's true to say that anybody can be a photographer at times.

-- Posted by clavicle at 12:13 pm on July 3, 2009

yes, but it usually greatly depends on what you're photographing.

-- Posted by GoodFairy13 at 12:21 pm on July 3, 2009

No. You just need "the eye," its a mix of visual imagination and artistic talent.
People find their own meaning in everything, photography takes almost no skill at all to someone with the eye for it.
