Hell yes.

I want to celebrate my nation's birthday by blowing up a small chunk of it.

It is pretty pathetic.  During the last couple years, cities all around my area have been making it illegal to light fireworks on the 4th of July.  It's pretty sad to look out my window that night and not see any fireworks going except over the Space Needle about 20 miles away.  When I was a kid in the 90s, I remember fireworks blasting everywhere and it was pretty awesome.

-- Posted by jakelong at 11:38 pm on July 3, 2009

Totally agreed It stinks.

-- Posted by MushroomSatsujin at 7:36 am on July 4, 2009

Depends. We have a ban here because its too dry so I can understand that. But lets say as a national ban, then yeah

-- Posted by Elm at 8:16 am on July 4, 2009

Not like I listen to the ban or obey any law I disagree with but some do and so their liberty is infringed.

How exactly do you get around a city-wide firework ban without going somewhere else to shoot the fireworks, though? You have cops swarming all over the roads specifically to listen for people who shoot off fireworks so they can slam them with a couple hundred dollar fine. It's not as if shooting off fireworks is the most quiet thing, so you'll always be bringing attention to yourself.

Um, no local police force in my area.

Heh, I would have assumed if they made laws banning fireworks that they'd have at least had a police force out to enforce it, which means revenue from fines on those who ignore it.  That seems to be the rationale for the police around here on the 4th of July.

State law, state police but they patrol once every 12 hours.

Yeah, our bans are city law (so some cities have the ban, other cities don't) and we have city police going at it.

I also have the privilege of being right on the border so tracing aerial antics to the proper jurisdiction is difficult.  Of course even if it were guaranteed that I were to be charged I would still celebrate my liberty by expressing it.

Very carefully. There was a ban here but I saw fireworks all night long

Fireworks bans are stupid. Thank god for Indian Reservations.
