Why do you americans say that when you mean you don't care?

That means you DO care about something when you are trying to convew that you don't.

Surely, the correct term is "I couldn't care less"

So that you cannot possibly care less about a certain subject than you already do.

Forgive me if I am wrong or confused, but wtf.

EWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! i feel so bad for him!

-- Posted by Lal at 9:27 pm on July 3, 2009

No, it's "I couldn't care less" but people say "I could care less" no idea why. just like, "I could give a rats ass" is supposed to be "I COULDN'T". Not a lot of people say it correctly.

-- Posted by cyberpunk at 9:27 pm on July 3, 2009

i say, "I couldn't care less."

but really, idc

-- Posted by hope19 at 9:27 pm on July 3, 2009

Haha. I've ALWAYS wondered about that. I'm glad I'm not the only person who has noticed that...

-- Posted by Kankalicious at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

I always think about that, and I do say couldn't care less. Drives me nuts.

-- Posted by The Artery at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

I know what you mean.

-- Posted by Descartes at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

Wow. I actually almost posted a topic exactly like this about 2 hours ago but I decided not to.

-- Posted by Agirl18 at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

I truly could care less

-- Posted by Troop at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

they say i could care less

because they could care less
but they care so little about the topic
that they could care less
but dont.
yea....

-- Posted by TechnoShark at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

I think I've heard this argument before.

I say "I couldn't care less" or "Shut the fuck up"

-- Posted by techfreak15 at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

Because "Don't care" is shorter.

-- Posted by Aria of Silence at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

The english language is a very confusing thing.

-- Posted by clavicle at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

i've seen more than just americans do that.

-- Posted by Kaijuu at 9:28 pm on July 3, 2009

I know it's so annoying
I'm american but I say I couldn't care less

-- Posted by torturedsoul20032000 at 9:29 pm on July 3, 2009

Merely because every language has it's own set of dialects.  For instance the Chinese.  If you go to any part of China, something that means one thing there can mean another thing elsewhere.  Same for England and any other country that has a large population.  Though the language is the same the dialect is different.

That has completely NOTHING to do with what I was talking about :/

Me, too lol.

So weird... I had this exact that either today or yesterday.

It goes along with how many people think 'I had nothing better to do' is an insult.  And in many cases it can be... but can't it also be... "out of everything I could have done, this was the best!"...

On another note... please explain the phrase, "You can't have your cake and eat it too."  Why would I want the cake in the first place if I couldn't eat it?

Hmm...

I disagree.  What is being asked is why people say something that has no basis on what it means.  When in fact such a large groups says it it is obviously slang.  So speaking of dialects, true it is in a much broader spectrum, is in fact relevant to the topic at hand.  Haha, I enjoy making myself seem smarter than I am.  It's entertaining.
