Why is prostituting illegal anyways? You know? People are just paying for sex. I know that's wrong, but what makes it illegal? I always wondered.

Yahoo answers :

Strictly speaking prostitution itself isn't illegal here. Soliciting, Brothel keeping, Living off Immoral Earnings, Transporting people across borders or around the country for the purposes of sex, all those are, and they're targeting the aspects that are annoying or threatening to society:
Prostitution can be a nuisance for people who live in an area where it's common and are sick of being propositioned, so soliciting is illegal.
Brothel keeping because in the past disreputable people were attracted to brothels and they tended to be a nuisance to a neighborhood. Also the greater potential for exploitation operating from a fixed location, even in our time there have been cases of women trafficked into this country and held imprisoned in brothels.
Living off Immoral Earnings is aimed at people who organise and do not participate in prostitution - pimps - because they are in a position to victimise the prostitutes "run" by them, and are by an large getting money for nothing.

Pornography doesn't present the public order issues that prostitution does, and the risk of abuse may be less - pornographic material has more traceability, more regulation, therefore more risk to any abuser.

Its only illegal if the government cannot tax it. there are places where its 100% legal, taxed by government.
