I just got an email from Geocities reminding me that they're closing down and the sites I had on them would be destroyed. Remembering suddenly that in my youth I dabbled in that, I went back to check it out... Man am I glad it's all going to be obliterated. Man, most of these haven't been touched since 2004, and I was an Abolute IDIOT back then. It's hard to imagine the tard 13  and 14 year old who couldn't even code HTML has lead me to where I am now.... Now if I do any web dev I store it on my own server so I can have root access...

How times have changed. But man, looking back on your past can be embarassing.

I made a Geocities webpage back in like, 6th or 7th grade. lol
It was so lame.

I had no idea they were closing down but I had one or two geocities 'sites' as well. I know exactly what you mean! My friends and I all thought we were so cool making up sites with pages like 'kool msn names' or whatever...

Oh god... I think I just died a little.

Oh, and I did some of that crap many years ago. Me and one of my friends. I to was thrilled when our free webhosting was deleting everything and going down. Unfortunately, my friend still had backups of EVERYTHING and decided to put them on his server. And buy the .us of my user name (lesson learned, always buy EVERY possible variation when you are buying domains)

So yeah, now he will email me, IM me, even text me randomly with the link, just to remind me what an idiot I was.

WHAT???

geocities closing????

good god - how long have they been up?? what - 9, 10 years???

BTW - any reason on why they are shutting down????

I am also rather very happy about that. At one point though, I did buy a domain and some space from them for about $9 a month. Now I can get that much cheaper. It's crazy to think about how time changes in only a few years.

lol I also made a geociticies site when I was still in 7th grade. I thought I'm so cool to have a page like that...lol. Now, I completely forgot about it until I received an email from them informing me that they will be closing down.

Presumably because Yahoo is bankrupt.

IF THAT IS THE CASE, then why is yahoo/google and Microsoft agreeing on a search engine??
I read a story about this NOT TOO LONG AGO.
