They shouldn't because people who make silly knee jerk reactions are not ready to communicate maturely in a relationship. Knee jerk reactions lead to divorce, conflict, or dissatisfied marriage. This completely relates to political issues, and whatnot. The reason that some things are 'dumb' or 'dumbed down' is because people have emotional knee jerk reactions and demand that stupid laws are passed instead of thinking about the issue and its possible implications for the future.
