Put it on the cut as soon as you can, as hot as you can stand. Then if you arm is really wet, dry around it. Get hydrogen peroxide and apply it to the cut.   :D Edit: Do this 1-2 times a day, every day until handled. Doesn't sound too serious... the purple is probably just bruising from the cut itself. Wash it with warm water and soap, a few times a day. Definitely make sure to scrape it out so that dirt doesn't collect in it. It should be fine.
