I wouldn't ever want complete dependence, but if he didn't have parts of him that truly needed me, and certain things he wont talk about with anyone else.. While it's somewhat nice to be needed, I'd also feel weird and uncomfortable about it. I'd rather us be mutual partners in the relationship. Now, there's also emotional interdependence, but that's usually only something that develops over time, and rarely present at the start of a relationship unless you were either close friends already, or there was some special circumstance.
