There's lots of fluids that can come out of a vagina, and most girls don't like having wet underwear. She obviously knows her body, knows she needs the protection, and doesn't want to tell you about her vaginal discharge issues. Not ALL girls have this problem, so she probably does and knows how to take care of it.
