It's not uTorrent. It's either your connection or the torrent itself.

Torrents are legal, just using them to obtain things illegally is illegal. Many Linux distros use torrents as their primary method of distribution. The OP never said exactly what was taking so long downloading. On topic: How many seeders are out there? Do you have ports properly forwarded? Does your ISP attempt to do anything against torrents? There are lots of things that can slow down a torrent, and some people just seed very slowly during peak usage times.
