Pages: 1 2  Next -- Posted by hadley at 11:02 pm on June 13, 2003 seriously, it makes absolutely no sense!  god is supposed to be this wonderful, forgiving person yet he sends people to hell.  in the bible it says hell is a place of eternal torment and suffering.  why would you want anyone to suffer for eternity??? that is a really long time.  i know some people are bad and need to be punished, but even a rapist or a murderer shouldn't be punished forever!!! What is interesting, however, is that the Old Testament only refers to hell as where the spirits of the dead are, makes no other comment about their state of existence. It gets even better... since we all sin, and even one sin merits eternal punishment (ah, love...), the only way to escape hell is to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and as the only mediator between God and man. Again,  a very unaccepting comment. The Divine Entity reveals Itself to the people of the Earth in ways they can understand. Christianity is one of these routes. -- Posted by Silver Shadow at 9:59 am on June 14, 2003 What if you're an athiest? -- Posted by S U P E R D A V E at 7:03 pm on June 14, 2003 They're just saying if you don't believe in God, you get a "Go to Hell" card, like on Monopoly.  But that's if Christians are right, which is to say no one can say for absoluteness who is right where, which is why I laugh at all religious beliefs.  Everyone says they're right, but they don't know that for absolute certainty.  It's an impossibility to prove, so it's a useless thing. -- Posted by thunderous04 at 8:26 pm on June 14, 2003 I think it's in the book of galatians it says "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus christ is lord"  That means everyone, no exceptions, will have to say that jesus christ is lord.  The only drawback is that either you accept it here on earth, or you will be forced on judgement day.  In the bible (not sure where) it says that "the God of israel is a jelous God"  hence the second commandment "There shall be no other god's before me"  Hell was not supposed to be created but when Lucifer (satan) sinned while in heaven he was cast down into hell along with 1/3 of all the angels in heaven.  If you want to know more about the story then please message me or something.  I'm a precher's kid and i plan on majoring in ministry, so i know my stuff.   :) -- Posted by TheCelloChick at 10:40 pm on June 14, 2003 In my opinion, hell is just an idea that acts as a threat so people will act morally. I think it is an unreasonable idea to ask that everyone acepts jesus christ as their lord, as so many people believe so many different things. We don't know what they are but they exist. If god herself had written it it would be perfect. Honestly I don't believe in hell. I think its just there to scare us into being good. Have you ever been raped or have a loved one murdered? Being raped is one of the worest things that could ever happen to a women. If you have ever been raped you would want that rapist to suffer because you will have that memory of what happened to you with you forever.  But those who commit suicide shouldn't be condemed because they want to go to heaven because they can't handle earth. i know god has a plan written for us all but is that really in it? is rape and murder and suicide really there? Maybe she isn't a great god. God made human race. If god was a man why wouldn't she give men the ability to give life to humans. Women do all the work in the creation. So men create sperm woo hoo. But women do the important part. We care the babys for 9 months. We give birth. No offense men pass out when we have children. You just need to look at the bible more closely.
