Would you support Bills to make the people on unemployment benefits to do a set amount of a community service in order to receive them, assuming they are able bodied? Such a Bill tried to get passed here but there was a massive outrage(I Blame our Lazy unemployment culture).

Some folk get made redundant and get on the search ASAP it wouldn't seem right for folk like them who are determined to get another job- is there a time period until they are required to do the community service or do you mean right away- as soon as they sign up

Here in canada it's called Employment Insurance (EI) and a set amount is taken from your paycheck towards it. When you have sufficient stuff, you are given your "Unemployment". And enough about "cultures". You are a fuckwit.

I question the need to put unemployed people into community service. Surely the service they are doing could be converted into jobs? If there's a need for something to be done, then it should go to people who are working. That would create jobs, resolving the issue of unemployment to some degree.

Im thinking more of a way to remove long term unemployed people who refuse to work, into employment. besides with something like this you could reduce the public sector a bit in return.

Wrong you ask loaded questions and use lame terms referencing some sort of "culture" based problem.

Actually thats wrong. EI is for when you get laid off. Anybody can go on Welfare here. Its a pissoff thats for sure. My sister's friend's live-in boyfriend has been on welfare for a year and despite her being pregnant is barely looking for a job because welfare is easier for him. Fuck I hate welfare.

I'd force people into work by forcing them to take the first job they're offered, on pain of removal of benefits. I'm not saying create public sector jobs to do community service work - there are plenty of private contractors out there to pay.

There are very serious issues with the way Unemployment, Welfare, and other Social services are run. We as Americans need to revise the legislation aspect of how these services run. One thing that we really need to do is do away with the anchor babies, we only pay some crazy 32 billion dollars a year to help aid illegals and their children. But,back to unemployment. No, I don't see it right that you would have to do community service to receive it. Are they(the government) going to lower or remove the unemployment taxes that get taken out of our checks if that is passed or the method in which it was set up? We all know the answer to how our thieving government would act to that. Every paycheck you get, Workermans Compmensation, welfare, social security, and amongst other fees are taken out to compensate you in times of need. If you are paying into it why the heck would you do community service to get it? So our government can raise taxes and put that money into their pockets while they have community projects done for free by the citizens? I was out of work for like 4 months and never used social services. Its so abused these days its not funny, its one of the main things that are bankrupting this country.

IMO you should only be allowed to get welfare if you get your tubes tied. No reason to fund idiots so they can reproduce more idiots. Of course after a set amount of time, if you need a small boost to get you back on your feet after losing a job that's one thing - but people who just sit on their ass and get a check...

this already happens in australia to some degree. unemployed people receiving benefits are forced to actively look for jobs and accept the first job they can do. employers also get paid to take them on sometimes.

Still i know just as much as you do that it still gets heavily rorted, they will purposely go to in interview looking like a Bogan and get rejected so they don't have to work.

If you are going to force these people to do community service, you'll need to pay them more welfare.

It takes a lot of work to keep doing that. No, i don't know that those who still choose to do that and pull it off when they are capable of getting a job, statistically outweigh other policy options. I dont think the govt always makes good choices or is capable of always making good choices, but your alternative wouldn't work. Forcing people to do community work for welfare is below minimum wage. It's less than what prisoners do. Unless you want to provide accommodation and food too, how will it ever get implemented without massive backlash? And if you simply say "well too bad, we're not paying you unless you do what I say," there will be deaths and suicides and social problems. We're not in a society where the govt can wilfully let people die. (you might get away with it in some developing countries frowned upon by the UN)
