I've been using Spybot for a while from http://www.safer-networking.org  I dunno if it's the best, but it works pretty well and it's free.

Avast! isn't a trial, it's free. Avast! just requires you to register so they can send you the CD key . . .

you can get the 'Avast Home edition' for free you just need to register in that site. and get the Free activation key, they will be sending that to your E-mail. Avast click this link and go to this site and register, and download it. after that install the Avast and copy past the activation key from your E-mail.

For Anti-Virus software, which people may consider the better ones which also happen to be free are AVG and Avast.

For spyware you could try, Spybot search and destroy or Ad-aware SE Personal.

I tend to like AVG for anti virus and Ad-aware for spyware.

I use Adaware and Mcafee. Mcafee works great and so does Adware except that you will have to upgrade adaware with new definitions from time to time.

OK. First off, get rid of Mcafee LOL, it sucks the ballz man! Get fuckin Norton even, it's shit but at least it's better than Mcafee. Secondly, 1 anti-spyware tool isn't usually enough. Get 2, or 3 like me :D

that's like asking what the best car is, it totally depends on any number of things. What is your system like? Do you meet the system requirements for mcafee, Norton et al? I use F Secure personally and it does just fine
