I will be converting LiveWire to use session IDs instead of cookies to store your memberids and passwords. I will be storing your session ID as a cookie, but for those of you who don't have cookie enabled it will be passed in the URL as a safety. This will mean that you will be signed out after your session expires. I have not yet decided the default session length, but I'm considering making it 30 minutes of inactivity before you are signed out. I will be uploading the changes in a few minutes. If you experience problems please email me at webmaster@golivewire.com and tell me exactly what's wrong.

Can you explain what session id's are exactly? They use up less space than cookies I suppose, is the reason you are making the switch. Also, thanks for making LW. It's one of my favorite websites if not favorite.

So now we won't be able to come back, and have our account already logged in, but have to type out our information?
-- Posted by Shawn06 at 7:35 pm on Aug. 8, 2006
Alrighty.
-- Posted by davjs at 7:38 pm on Aug. 8, 2006
We're switching to session IDs for multiple reasons: 1. Allow people who have cookies disabled to use LiveWire 2. More secure (harder to steal passwords) 3. Reduces the number of cookies we have to set 4. Allows LiveWire to sign members out safely after a certain amount of time

That sounds alright, I suppose, although I did enjoy almost never having to sign in.

Is it causing messageing bugs too? Because I can't message my friends or get to my friend's list. (Edited by DarkSecretKeeper121 at 11:02 pm on Aug. 8, 2006)

If you use FF it saves your member name and pw... So does any other browser.

I'm sorry but that auto sign out thing is annoying as hell. Please let us be able to disable this, as most people have said our browsers can just auto complete it or what ever so really it won't make a difference.
