People join it, hang out, party, meet people, make friends, just general stuff. Yup thats correct. I went through Fall Rush my freshmen year. It was pretty interesting going through the different houses. The sorority I wanted to join [Delta Gamma] actually was/is a fraternity, because the founders were guys. But its really only for girls. I ended up not joining due to time management and money issues. I never really wanted to join a sorority but after seeing them I would rather kill myself than be in one.  Feh, and some call me a JAP, they obviously have never seen any of these sororities. -- Posted by threnodygrey at 11:09 pm on Mar. 20, 2005 There is nothing wrong with joining frats and sororites.  I'm in a sorority which originally was based on community service (and still is), but we still manage to throw some of the best parties on campus with a portion of the proceeds going to various charities around our city.  Different ones have different rules, as do different chapters.  For example, my university's chapter of my sorority have to keep at least a 3.0 or else we get put on probation.  Yes, you have to pledge - my line and I crossed in Fall 04 - and it's expensive.  At my school (and most like it), there aren't big posters everywhere advertising the probate - a lot of people hear about them by invitation only or by word of mouth. The major Greeks I know about are... Frats: Omega Psi Phi (also known as the Ques) Alpha Phi Alpha Kappa Alpha Psi Phi Beta Sigma Groove Phi Groove (more a social group than a frat, though) Sororities: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc Alpha Kappa Alpha (the AKAs) Zeta Phi Beta Sigma Gamma Rho Swing Phi Swing (more of a social group) There are also various academic and specialised frats/sororities (Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, for example). Note: I attend an HBCU, so all I can tell you about are the well-known historically black fraternites and sororities.  Things might be different with PWIs. -- Posted by crazychris at 12:04 am on Mar. 31, 2005 I want to know more about the fraternities.  Like, what is the difference between the business ones or the social ones.  Do they all party?  Anyone here in a fraternity or know people in one?  I would like to know more information.  My college right now is just a 4-year college and it does not have anything like that but I'll be going to a university later on and I am curious.  Also, along with my previous questions, what are the pledges like?  Also.. nobody really distinguished the first guys question about what they are like compared to their portrayal in movies and television. -- Posted by hollister 59 at 4:32 am on April 9, 2005 the most basic that i know of in a fraternity is a bunch of kids getting together having a good time. usually drinking and partying. but some have a special part in it i have heard of some rebuilding communities and other stuff like that so if that helps any lol.
