Ok, so for Christmas I'm gonna upgrade my computer and get a new processor. I would really want it to be dual core, and would prefer AMD. I have no idea where to start. Do I need a new motherboard or can I just buy the processor?

Any recommendations on what model? I'd like it to be under 200.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the motherboard that you currently have. Chances are that you're going to have to get a new mobo.

Well it depends on the motherboard. If you're looking to buy a new mobo, you can get a new processor to go with it. How much do you want to spend total? If you get a new motherboard, you have to make sure it has similar specs to the one you have now. You've got to be able to put your ram, video card, etc. on it.

Keep in mind that any drastic hardware change will result in the inability to use your current Windows installation. I upgraded mine and was not able to use Windows.

So before you buy like a madman, ensure you backup anything you need before the transfer of hardware.

Good luck.
