My landlord charged me a fee for "cleaning two refrigerators." That's right, he charged me for cleaning out a refrigerator I didn't even use. I only used one refrigerator not two! He is just a grouchy old man who used my money to clean his ratty old house! Should I consult a lawyer? Those cost money you know. Is it worth it? He took 300 dollars from me basically. He said he had to deodorize it. Yeah right, I know the girl who used it and it wasn't me.

The lawyer will cost more than the cost of cleaning your fridges...

Well...how much did he charge you?

300 dollars.

Did you tell him that you only used one fridge and therefore should only pay for one fridge being cleaned?

YES! AND HE WOULDN'T LISTEN. He called me a liar, even though I'm not. He is a tightwad bastard. He also wanted to charge me for days that I wasn't even there, as well as a "moving in fee" for me to move my furniture into the room.

I know why he did it too. One of the roommates, this fat girl said she didn't like me for some reason. She said that I used the fridge, even when I didn't.

You start getting charged rent the day you sign the lease. It doesn't matter if you are there or not.

And you should have discussed all these fees before signing anything.

You have no legal rights then. A lawyer would laugh at you probably and a judge would say you got what you asked for when you moved in as a tenant and never signed anything.

If he never wrote up a contract asking for any money then I shouldn't have to pay him. The contract is his responsibility dumb ass.

And it is yours. Neither of you have any legal rights. You both screwed yourselves over.

It is YOUR responsibility to make sure you guys agree to the terms of an agreement and that you take the legal steps to make sure you are charged fairly.

Which you did not do.

So, it looks like you are the dumb ass here.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. But like the people above me have said. I would just eat the cost of the refrigerator incident than hire a lawyer.
