Hmm Im about to format my laptop, at the moment Im burning some movies that Ive downloaded it, then Im going to hook myself up to my router to transfer what other shit I need. Apparently it transfers at 30gig an hour...awsome. Im keeping photos, my music, some informative documents and some hard to find programs... Im worried that Im going to forget something, although I REALLY need to reformat, Ive been without an antivirus for a while, and at 75gig of my 80gig harddrive. Anyway, just thought Id share that with you...if you have any advice on this issue Id be greatful...thanks =]

Usually what I do (since I reformat every few months or so) is that I keep my Windows install on one smaller partition, and have all my other stuff on another partition. When I reformat, I only back up my fonts and favourites. Quite simple, really. I also have a copy of them on my other partition, and I have all the drivers and SP2 on the other partition as well.

^^ Why so often?
Because Windows has a nice thing for sucking within 6 months of install.

Nope. So I don't have to pay to renew my antivirus subscription .

My reasons are because that is the average time for a cataclysmic failure.

I do quite a bit that can screw up my computer over and over, but I'm careful with things and my computer runs pretty much error free. This particular install has been on for over a year and a half now (I've been meaning to reformat, but I'm just too occupied with other things).

When i format, which i do quite regularly, i get everything in "my Documents". I also have a folder inside my docs called "installers" whenever i download a prog, i save its installer and stick it in there, that way when i format i don't have to download it again. Also another thing i do is go into my AV program and copy all the latest virus definition files so on my clean copy i have all the latest virus defs and i don't have to dload them again. There's heaps of other stuff i backup, i've got it down to a fine art really.
