All I hear from people is "Join a club!"  Why?  I have friends that I  already keep in touch with and I am not at college to be bogged down with a useless club, I am here to do my work so that I can live comfortably when I get out.  It's not like the only place you can meet friends is in a club.

You don't have to. It's recommended if the club will help you with a future career.

cancerboy wtf

You don't HAVE to join a club, I agree. If you're really interested in a certain thing, a club is a great way to find people with that kind of interest but it's not the ONLY way.

Join a club? MAKE YOUR OWN!

I'm going to assume the OP was talking about a school club....

And you don't have to, but it usually helps and gets you to be a more well rounded person...sometimes. Or so they say.

Well, when you join a club, you get this whole thing of doing something you like with other people who also like it. BAM something in common right there, and easier to make friends. of course that's not the only place to meet people, but it helps shy people out when they can have something to talk about instead of grasping at straws to start a convo. Lots of people go to college far from home and literally have NO ONE there to talk to. Sure they may have friends from high school but those friends may be 3000 miles away, and that doesn't help you when you want to go see a new film and have to go alone, because you don't have any friends where you are. That's never any fun.

-- Posted by dreamweaver at 12:06 pm on Aug. 21, 2007

Clubs are not very everyone and you don't have to join one. If you're comfortable with what you have and don't want to do any of that, then dont worry about it.

Why don't you try a fraternity or sorority.  There are usually ones that fit your needs.  Also, fellow members can become lifelong friends.

-- Posted by LilGuardchic86 at 9:31 pm on Aug. 29, 2007

No, but it helps make friends.

thats stupid u dont have to join a club thurr just to keep u out of trouble & meet new ppl big deal

-- Posted by gprime at 5:59 pm on Sep. 9, 2007

It really depends on what you want. If you're going to college to expand your career options and salary potential, then chances are you'll want to go to some sort of graduate or professional school after that. And in that case, they can matter. For example, a law school applicant should do Debate, Mock Trial, or Model UN. A medical school applicant may want to join a Biology club or a Pre-Med society. I think you get the point. And, outside all of that, a fraternity is great for networking, so it may be in your financial interest to join.

I actually just got a pretty stellar internship that I did not expect to even get an interview for when I applied.

Talking to the lady who hired me, she gave me an initial phone interview only because of one of the club leadership bullets on my resume.
