Ever since I visited the college and met an RA I knew that that was something that I wanted to do. It was a bit of work, but I took away some great stories, fantastic memories, and great friends. As far as I know, most RAs don't do shit. I have had friends who have enjoyed it and some who didn't. Every RA I know did it for the free room, since it is otherwise damn costly. In my experience, those whose parents cover their college costs are almost never RAs, because it is extra work, with no real benefit to them personally. Some RAs are reasonably involved, and do a good job. I even know one who'll give her homework to her kids if they take any of the same classes. On the flipside, there are others that probably wouldn't notice if you were suffering from toxic shock in the middle of the floor's common area.
