-- Posted by Toxic Hauteur at 3:23 pm on Aug. 10, 2004 Okay, so I know I could e-mail HP support, or wade through the tons of partially helpful computer forums, but I thought I'd give a crack at livewire first, considering I know there have got to be some people in the know here. Okay, so somehow (don't ask me how, I NEVER get viruses) I suddenly got this virus (don't know what it's called, I can't keep my computer on long enough to find out) after not using my laptop for two months. I can turn my computer on, but when it gets to the desktop it shuts itself down after about 20-30 sec. I can only get stuff off of it (docs etc) when in safemode. I tried to use my restore CDs, but those wont work (my computer is not recognizing my CD drive, apparently) and I can't do it the old-fashioned way (it's decided to ignore my C: drive as well .. but it recognizes the floppy) Someone .. HELP ME!! All I really want to know is if anyone has experienced this or knows what may be wrong .. OS Windows ME I have booted in safemode to get all the docs and stuff that I need (because it will shut itself down in normal mode). For some reason my desktop is now loading now .. It found TWENTY ONE infected files .. all in a C:/restoresomething-or-other.. If it is sasser, read though this first, before reformatting. EDIT: If you already have your docs, it might just be easier to reformat. If your feeling brave, try linux.
