Hey, Have any of you lot heard about the new Windows that is coming out in 2005? At the moment they are calling it Windwos Longhorn (seems a rather stupid name to me to be honest!) My mate downloaded it off of Kazaa and had it running on his PC for a couple of months (this was just the Alpha version of it, not completed or nothing). After a while it started running really slow and crappy so he took it off but i am just wondering if any of you use it or have heard about it. :p

Yup.. livingroom system runs the 4015 (M5) build right now, quite an improvement over 3683 (M3) and 4008 (M4)

Just more crap from Mirosoft//

Yeah, more shit from MS. The Longhorn theme sucks as well.

check this forum out for more info regarding longhorn... http://board.iexbeta.com/ibf10/index.php?act=SF&f=38 I have 4008, but accidently screwed it up and can't use it anymore... too lazy to find the 4015, no time, AP tests and crap...

i've heard of it. longhorn will not be the final name of it (at least thats what my dad told me). i haven't used it though, trying an alpha version of an os sounds too risky to me.

Heard about it, have it, run it. lol. Nothing special about it till the new gui in M7 though. As for the codename, its a cafe at the bottom of whistler (a mountain) and blackcomb is another mountain name; so it makes sence... As for your friend getting a leaked copy, the latest leak of 4015 runs quite well (it was also used at WinHEC for all demonstrations done by microsoft).. quite frankly the newest builds dont run very well, so if you do want to use it just get M5 4015 and use that for a while.

Well i guess i feel like being picky, but Windows 2003 Server also does not exist. Its Windows Server 2003, (Edition name goes here) Kinda think you would relize that, since if you look at the bootup screen.. it doesnt actualy say "Windows 2003 Server" unless you edited it to do so or for some reason or another; still run a beta copy.
-- Posted by XxCrazyDawg69xX at 11:53 pm on May 24, 2003
I've never heard of that.

best way to make money...put random errors and glitches in the OS...then a few years later (2 or 3) offer to fix them for $$$ windows 95-98 windows 98-2k windows xp-LONGHORN windows LONGHORN - 2k7 :D

Hi, I was wondering if any of you who have used longhorn could please send me alink as to where I can get. I have been searching around, but can't find it. my e-mail is: insane9999@hotmail.com Thanks!
-- Posted by bababooeey at 7:31 am on Oct. 24, 2003
Nobody has it. They are not even beta testing it yet. If there IS an actual Alpha version out there it is most likely either fake, a virus, a trojan, a half assed crack or malware. Sign up to become a beta tester and if you get picked they'll send you a copy. I would NEVER in a million years install a OS from Kazaa. You're better off throwing your PC in the trash.

Nobody has it? MUWHAHAHA! - Get your facts straight before you say anything. Ive been running longhorn for like a year now dude. Also for your information, Microsoft is giving longhorn to the developers at PDC... PDC is in like 2 days. Edit: Typo (Edited by Neko at 6:46 pm on Oct. 24, 2003)

Just because you have it doesn't mean you got it from a legit source. There's always someone out there with cracked/hacked versions of everything. It's called WAREZ and personally I wouldn't use ANY OS or major application on Kazaa.

i cant immagine an alpha version from microsoft has to be pretty bad going by all the problems they have when they release stuff

put it this way...i know lots about my enemy first my opinion: longhorn is gonna be the demise of microsoft, this is when people are gonna realize "thats expensive and it sucks at the same time". alternatives (not necessairly (sp) linux) are going to start to become popular at this time. requirements:
3 ghz minimum, 4-6 (nonexistant) recommended for decent performance 2 gig of ram *minimum 1gigabit ethernet built in (sounds like a ploy for propriteary parts ) a wireless 802.11g receiver built in (more proprietary parts?) and graphical cards that have 3 times the preformance of those on the market right now. up to a terabyte for the storage (currently possible but very expensive with raid and such) i wonder how much that theoritical system costs? lemme guess, all intel components?
its scheduled to release in 2006, which they had to drop WinFS from the plan to meet that date. What are they gonna use NTFS? thats efficient (Edited by mephisto mortis at 3:19 pm on Sep. 15, 2004)

I've only heard bad things about it. About four months ago, I vowed to switch to Linux before Longhorn came out. I've been MS free since 6.25.04

first, u can get leaks of longhorn off bittorrent sites, lotza em out there and longhorn has been in testing for a longgggg while and the whole MS bashing... its just getting old... MS has advantages, linux has advantages and Mac has advantages... windows is still the best gaming platform out there BY FAR, while linux provides stability and Mac provides sum awesome video and multimedia editing power

Windows, we'll say its best for gaming, not BY FAR. Half the games i've got running over wine (NOT cedega, therefore less directx support) run better through linux. Examples: Morrowind gets 50-100 better fps, and starcraft is noticably faster in loading. b ut then again i have a gaming-sources kernel.
Granted windows has better gaming preformance on most games.
