Pages: 1 2  Next -- Posted by andrewcool at 8:19 pm on Feb. 1, 2008 I got nearly a full paid scholarship to Sacred Heart University.   The only thing that is not included is housing, and I heard there is a housing scholarship that I can apply for. Anyway, my mom doesn't really want me to go, and she is saying that we still can't afford it. Even though its nearly paid in full, and I can get more money from other scholarships ect.   Should I still go there (I really want to go)? Personally I got offered a similar scholarship (tuition but not room and board) at a school that I didn't like that much so I didn't take it. Its up to you. Do you really want to go there? She will... she is just scared probably that you are moving so far away... she is probably having a hard time grasping things.   She is begging me, and even offering stuff so that I will stay. That is odd. She needs to let you grow up.   I was talking to several teachers, and they said thats the hardest parts for mom's.     Some kids are not trying to go far away because their parents want them to be closer.     This one kid, got a full ride to a very expensive school, however her parents don't want her to go there, because its too far. I mean... yea it is hard for parents, but at same time it is really about "letting go" deep down inside. A parent wants to keep their child with them at all times, and when the child moves out, it is almost like a loss to the parents bc their raising is over with. Your mom does want you to go, but probably has a hard time giving you up... ecpesially to a school so far away.   The school is only 2,000 miles apart. Do you have any tips on trying to get her to let me go?   How did your parents handle you leaving? I live at home still... SHU is only like 15 - 20 minutes away. Hmm, do you still have any tips on this? Just sit down and talk with her. Tell her this is your life, this is the University you want to attend, this is a great school etc... tell her you have scholorships and not to worry, you will be fine. Just talk to her seriously.
